April Wrap-Up

How is it possible that April feels longer than the first three months of the year? I swear last month took soooo long to pass, but at the same time, how on earth is already May?? And I already have plans for every week of the month, not kidding. My social life is on fire this month, which means I’ll be able to hibernate for the rest of the year. Jokes aside, I have no idea how my reading is going to be. What I do know is how April has been, so let’s dive into it.

The higher moment of the month has to be the release of The Fates Divide* (the last book in Carve The Mark series) by Veronica Roth. My copy took a little while to come in the mail, completely failing the release date, which is sad. However, by that time, I was still taking baby steps with Carve The Mark*, so it did help to receive the book a few days later. It was amazing to reread it one year later, especially since I forgot most of the story. I felt I was reading it for the first time once again, and I did enjoy more the second time around.

And here I was, hoping to read Carve The Mark and The Fates Divide in the same month, like an amazing reader… but I couldn’t. When I finished CTM, I was really excited to read the next one. When I read the prologue, told from Eijeh perspective, I got even more excited. And then, I switched to something shorter. I had the terrible idea to pick up The Vegetarian by Han Kang. The book is really disturbing but also really addictive. So right now, I’m really confused about what to think of it. I said in another wrap-up, the cover of this book was gorgeous, which was one of the things that caught my attention. But as soon as I started reading, my perspective on the cover completely changed, and I started seeing a few hidden things. Now when I look at it, I don’t see the pretty flowers anymore, my mind goes to the disgusting secrets it hides.

Let’s play a game. Try to find:  a fly;  a hand;  an eyeball;  a tongue!

One thing that got me completely by surprise was to discover a new book in the Miss Peregrine’s series by Ransom Riggs, A Map of Days. I haven’t read Library of Souls yet, but for me, I was done by the first book. I didn’t enjoy Hollow City as much as I would like, and the thought of another book being add to the series, it feels too much. I know a lot of people enjoy this series and must be thrilled with the idea, while here I am ranting about it. Although, I’m still curious about what that book can bring to the table. Maybe I should finish reading Library of Souls and then decide how I feel about a 4th book. Yes, probably should do that!

When it comes to saving money with books my choice goes to second-handed. And I’ve recently discovered a second-hand store that sells all kind of stuff. The first time I went there, I stuffed my bag with games, but this time they had loads of books. Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James was the first one that caught my eye, and after watching the second movie, I was determined to read the books just to know more about the story. I already read a few scenes towards the middle of the book, and I was cringing so hard. From what I read, the movie looks much better. Guess the better thing to do is read it to find out.

Then I saw The Fire Witness, the 3rd book in the Joona Lina series from the Swedish couple, Lars Kepler. They are a major success in the Nordic thrillers genre and I need to know why. I actually already have one book by them (The Nightmare, the second in the series) that I haven’t read yet. The books are considerably large which, unintentionally, scares me away. Right next to it was the first book of the Robert Langdon series, Angels and Demons. I started reading Dan Brown with the Da Vinci Code and the book was so simple and easy to read that got me hooked up. Back in October, I read the newest release, Origin (you can read my review here). And last month, I bought The Lost Symbol. Slowly, I’m getting them all, and soon I’ll be able to say I have read the entire series. Even though, I’m not doing it in order… But the crown of the jewel was Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. I’m completely in love with the movie and I’ve been keeping my eye out for this book for the past month. So when I found it, I didn’t even care how much it coasted, I was going to get it.

As I said, in the beginning, I’m going to have a busy month. And if that wasn’t enough, I’m finding choosing a TBR harder and harder each time. I have to go along with my mood and it doesn’t play along every time. April is a good example, I read Carve The Mark, didn’t finish The Fates Divide and picked up something else. I no longer know what I’m going to pick up next, and maybe that’s what I need. Start a month “blindly” without any planning, and just look at my shelf and grab the first thing I want.

And what about you how was last month? Which books did you read? And what books are you planning to read next? I’m always looking to find new books, so feel free to talk about them in the comments.
